Influenced.
This is sort of a strange. Stay with me. This started off very tongue in cheek, but the more I thought about it, the more the idea started to come together. It's still tongue and cheek.
The idea is that Adam Duritz unintentionally endorses a product and to some, this "endorsement" alters, persuades, affects or influences their future choices. I'm not talking Coke commercial endorsing either.
How many of us own a copy of Henderson The Rain King? Even if you bought it just to see if it was any good, or to have a better grasp on the song, that was Adam writing or saying or doing something that affected you.
Have you ever met a girl named Maria or Elisabeth or Anna or Amelia and smiled to yourself? Did you then find it easier to remember their name? Did you find them to be cuter than you normally would have? Have you ever been introduced to someone whose last name was Jones and found yourself singing silently in you head? That's Duritz creeping into your daily life.
Go into an Apple Store. In a brochure for the ipod, Counting Crows are listed as one of the bands in the playlist . During the start of the Hard Candy tour, you could sign up to win a G4 at the merch table. Is the band silently endorsing Macintosh versus PC's?
Radio Shack played American Girls on their in store dvd heavily throughout the month of July. During the month of August, you could have seen Adam telling you that you were watching Shack TV. Does this mean anything? Does he go there? Does anyone?
Has Adam affected you more than you realized? Questions to ask yourself :
Did you rent Burn or The Locusts just because Adam was the executive producer?
Did you spend too much time at Coffee House on Sunset just because Adam was a partner?
Did you buy the Gigilo Aunts cd just because they were on Adams record label?
Did you read A&R because Adam was quoted on the back flap?
Do you call your girlfriend/boyfriend monkey?
Did you secretly want to rent a bunny suit this past halloween? Are you thinking of doing it this halloween?
Do you want to name you daughter Elisabeth so you can sing her a lullaby of Goodnight Elisabeth every night?
Did you buy The Day I Swapped My Dad for 2 Goldfish for the artwork?
Did you research the real meaning behind the whole one for sorrow rhyme?
Do you catch yourself referring to blondes as yellow haired girls?
Did you ever want to go to Baltimore in the spring?
Are all of your web passwords somehow related to Adam or Counting Crows?
Did you buy a tube of flexpower because the website says he uses it?
Have you ever considered looking at an apartment just because the ad said it was on Virginia or Sullivan or La Loma?
